Two beauties and the devil

Image
They call it the Devil's Pool because only the devil is retarded enough to swim and lean at the very edge of one of the largest and highest waterfalls in the world.   I had read online about the death of one tour guide that plunged over the edge a few years ago and thought “whoa” When they said only the brave attempt to swim the Devil’s Pool   however I thought “THAT SOUNDS LIKE FUN.” I read one blog that mentioned a threat of running into crocodiles and hippos at the top of the waterfalls and I thought blah blah blah I’m going. I called my trusted friend: Let’s go and swim with the devil in Zambia friend. They say people have died there and there are crocodiles and stuff. I think we should go Rain over Zambexi Have I mentioned neither of us can swim for sht? AHAHAHAHA We flew in a day early and did the typical tourist activities. The cruise in the Zambezi river. I had bungeed at the Vic Falls in 2011 but it felt different this time. I was with a fellow dare...

Cuba… what comes to mind when you hear the word Cuba? Comrade Fidel Castro? Cohibas? For me Cuba is the people; the music; salsa; cigars; beautiful men and women skin sunkissed and long hair…yup you get it. I was introduced to Buena Vista Social Club album in 2005 and fell in love with the first track Chan Chan. I had known  of Comrade Fidel Castro before then of course and his ideals on communism but I’d be lying if I said that’s what attracted me to Cuba Playing the Buena Vista Social Club album took me to a place far away. I pictured myself in a maxi dress, straw hat; levitating in the streets of Old Havana; sundowners in my hand. I pictured men with tailored bodies in fedoras; topless or unbuttoned shirts. I said tailored bodies not umkhaba. I pictured old men drinking whisky or rum in this case and cigars; I pictured driving into the sunset in a pink vintage car. Fast forward 12 years. A phone call took place: Let’s go to Cuba. Simple response: Summer in Havana!!! Si p...

365 Days on...

I have counted 365 days without you. When will this pain end? I miss you every day and dream of you every night. I miss your gentle nature; your kind words and just staring at you in admiration. If I could be even half the human that you were... Until we meet again, love of my life

The people of Rwanda have spoken once again. Presidential elections were held on 4 August 2017 where Paul Kagame was re-elected to a third seven-year term with almost 99% of the vote. I have read all sorts of opinions on President Kagame’s governance and his dictatorship in the media. It seems we all know what’s good for Rwandan people except themselves. Voter turn out and election results beg to differ. He is exactly what the Rwandan people ordered. Rwanda, the land of a thousand hills. The land of proud Rwandan people; volcanoes and gorillas. I first heard of Rwanda in 1994 at the height of the genocide. I was too young to understand at the time but I had too many questions. Why were people of the same colour murdering each other? I asked my dad and he likened it to the battle between IFP vs. ANC in 1993 but on a larger scale. I remember asking him: Do they have a leader like we do Mandela, one they’ll listen to? I was naïve (in hindsight) but I knew something wa...
